UNB Rock and Ice

Friendly local climbing comps

Our friendly competitions are a great way to put your skills as a climber to the test with routes set for any skill level. Whether your new to the sport or have been crushing problems for years these comps are a great introduction to competition climbing. For our friendly competitions the routes are geared more toward new climbers. The routes in the gym do not always reflect the fact that there are always new climbers joining UNB Rock and Ice so with fresh panels to work with our setters are able to put up some really fun problems for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’re in it for fun or going for gold you’ll find yourself pushing your fingers to their limits for a chance to win some amazing prizes!

UNB Rock and Ice holds two friendly comps each year. Each competition has three categories based on experience level: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.

HALLOWEEN COMP

The Halloween competition takes place Halloween weekend, the Saturday after our showing of the Reel Rock Film Tour. Come dressed in your costume because on top of prizes for those who are pulling the hardest in each category, we have a prize for best costume!

BANFF COMP

Banff Mountain Film Festival (BMFF) comp is held on the Saturday of the BMFF weekend. You’ll be all psyched up after all those adventure films, so we want to see you cranking!

Route setting clinic

All those routes you climb at the wall are set by our volunteers and members. We want to encourage people to set safe, thoughtful routes that will motivate others to crank hard! So if you want to try your hand at setting, learn some tricks, and see the thought process behind some of your favorite projects, come to the clinic.
